Using the graph to determine correct exposure

Take picture, or have pictures on your camera.

Move slider to bottom position. Push the DISP. button until you see the blue and white graph??

IF:

1)the graph is big on the left, THEN image is TOO DARK

3)the graph is big on the right THEN the image is TOO LIGHT

2)the graph is level across,,, THEN the image has PERFECT exposure

The great thing about the SD1000 is you are able to take a picture, and even if you cant see the LCd ( bright sun ) the graph will show tell you what to do..

Push FUNC.SET to bring up the menus and set camera to MANUAL.

Use the collar ring sleeve to scroll DOWN the left side menu.

The second setting here is EXPOSURE.

You can now use the collar ring sleeve to adjust the EXPOSURE.

If the image was too dark increase exposure moving right

If the image was too light decrease exposure, by moving left

Use the FUNC.SET button to "set" your custom button.

Look page 67 of the guide for all of the functions, BUT....

I use it for +/-(Exp)..the exposure adjustment.

You can QUICKLY adjust exposure, while in manual, skipping the steps explained above.

While you are in manual picture mode, push the custom button....adjust the exposure.

7

This is really fun....

Turn camera on, move slider to the top, press MENU.

Set the AiAf variable to "FACE DETECT"

Point and zoom the camera at the TV, and watch the LCD screen.

If there are clear picture of human faces are on the TV ( yes a regular television set) the you will see a white box appear around ALL of the faces on the screen. If you have test subjects ( your family/friends ) point the camera at them and see the white boxes appear. This is amazing technology. the camera knows this is a face, and will focus adjust accordingly. HOW KEWL IS THAT???

8

Hard to focus subjects, use the AF lock

In macro, and some other modes, there is a fixed focus setting.

This setting allows you to focus on a specific target, and FIX the focus.
