The SD1000 is the latest upgrade from Canon, it came to market in April 2007. It is one of the most spectacular devices, for the money, that we have ever played with. The SD1000 improves upon the SD600, the previous model. The camera work fast and smooth with the improved level III canon technology. The SD1000 has 7.1 vs the 6 megapixels of the SD600. The new SD1000 has improved sleek design with recessed buttons and slider. The LCD screen is more resistant to damage.
We like the SUPER SMALL SIZE, about 1 inch x 2 inches x 3 inches There is NO EXCUSE TO NOT take the SD1000 with you,,,grab it and go, unless cameras are banned.
There is also a Canon SD750 which has a 3 inch LCD screen and cost about $50-100 more than the SD1000. The SD750 does NOT have a viewfinder. There are situations when a viewfinder is useful. It saves batteries to use the viewfinders instead of the LCD. There will be instances when the viewfinder will do a better job than the LCD. e.g. VERY BRIGHT sunlight or on the ocean. Buy the SD1000 and spend the extra money on batteries and memory.
Our SD1000 was purchased at Sam's wholesale club for $219.00 plus tax. It is also available at B&H and other online shops for $220-$450 TAX FREE. We saw it for sale at Circut City for $249.00 with a 2GIG memory card included. Price shopping is good, but remember to ask about the return policy. An easy return policy is worth A LOT.
Some companies, like Newegg, offer RESTRICTED RETURN POLICIES and sometimes buying on ebay is like throwing money out the car window. If the camera works everything is fine, but if you have problems, you want someone to GIVE BACK THE MONEY. We have had great success with B&H. We have invested in many products from B&H and we have returned some of them. We dont play games, and we always make sure to take care of the box, instructions and everything else.

If we want to capture VERY important Photos, we use a good 35mm camera. The 35mm negatives last forever and multiple lens options offer flexability. BUT if you want to capture SPECTACULAR FUN, use the tiny, easy to carry, easy to use, Canon SD1000.
